Glad to hear it's amusing someone. :) I recently spent some time
setting up a <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Radio_Mondiale">DRM</a>
decoder with that Kiwi. Basically Kiwi SDR in IQ mode -> <a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/">VB-Cable</a>
-> <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://sourceforge.net/projects/drm/">Dream</a> in "I/Q Pos
Split" mode, with the missing AAC+ DDL <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.travelradio.lv/drm/drm_new_software/dream/dream1.14/dream_1.14.zip">here</a>.
Ended up <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.hamwan.org/DreamOut.mp3">recording</a> some 250kW
broadcast all the way from Kuwait. Not the most thrilling of
content, but still neat to hear Hi-Fi stereo on HF.<br>
<br>
The antenna is a large (7ft?) CB whip. Not base loaded, just
attached to the center conductor of the coax, with the shield
attached to the ground rod. Perhaps some of the folks who installed
it took pictures.<br>

<div dir="ltr">I'm curious about the antenna, as well. I can
send myself CW at 100mw (the lowest power my radio will
go) from my QTH (near Snohomish) using a G5RV with a peak
about 30ft, and receive it on the SDR anywhere from 559 to
599, depending on the band. Granted, that's only maybe 20
miles, but still rather impressive for 100mw and what
sounds like a very compromised antenna on the Haystack
end.

The recent Haystack work party managed to
install a receive-only SDR up <br>
there. It is provisionally available for
use by anyone at:<br>

<a href="http://44.24.241.60:8073"

moz-do-not-send="true">http://44.24.241.60:8073</a><br>

I'll move it to a more permanent address,
with proper DNS, at some <br>
future point.<br>
<br>
In the meantime, I'd like to solicit
advice on how to minimize the QRM <br>
it's picking up. The noise is being
emitted by the site itself, from <br>
the Ethernet cables and such. I've
connected all the shields to site <br>
ground, but the emissions are still
there. The current antenna is a <br>
ground rod with vertical whip.<br>
<br>
1) Is there a better antenna design that
can serve the broadband <br>
(DC-30MHz) omnidirectional receive duties?<br>
2) Are there any suggestions on how to
further minimize the noise being <br>
emitted by the site?<br>
<br>
Thanks, and enjoy!<br>
