the shacks @ Baldi tied together via gigabit Ethernet, and install <br>
access switches at the 2 other shacks so people there can plug into the <br>
LAN directly. This high speed LAN between all shacks can then be used <br>
to allow us to address the 4th silly client, which is Rattlesnake <br>
Mountain. I'd like to install a dedicated dish on the northernmost <br>
tower (fed by the new high speed LAN) to act as a dedicated high speed <br>
link between Baldi and Rattlesnake. The dish on the Rattlesnake side <br>
will also need a modem upgrade to run at full speed, and I'm including <br>
that in this proposal.<br>

I like this idea. It looks like the wiztronics site would be the one you'd like to put the link to rattlesnake on. Since we don't currently occupy their main tower structure, we can check with them to see if a dish could be covered under our current lease at no additional cost if you'd like.<br>

seeing an explanation of a key aspect.<br>

What is the plan to connect the buildings with gigabit Ethernet? Are you<br>
planning on digging a trench, stringing the CAT5 along the tree's or<br>
something else? Sorry, I am not familiar with the layout or location of<br>
these different buildings. so maybe that is a good place to start with your<br>
plan? Have you received permission from the site owners for this work?<br>

Jason, glad you like this idea, as you're one one of the tenants who <br>
would benefit from the in-building switch access. :) We've partnered <br>
with another tenant who is sponsoring this build-out under his lease, so <br>
we don't need any further approvals. But thanks for offering to help!<br>

Kenny, a great question that I forgot to make clear. There is already <br>
conduit between all the buildings. I confirmed tonight that it's got <br>
sufficient capacity to run an extra CAT5. I think we only have to fish <br>
a ~150ft run between the middle building and the bunker, as there are <br>
spare CAT5s in the conduit between the middle building and north <br>
building, so that should just be plug-n-play. The trenching to the <br>
bunker was done earlier this year as a response to the awful power <br>
outages we suffered this winter. The north building is now tied into <br>
generator control (and possibly power?) of the bunker.<br>

Does the conduit already carry a conductor? I would avoid installing<br>

Thanks to those who told me how to check out my radio/dish. It was <br>
fine. Problem had to be before radio or after radio. It was after, on <br>
my site. Unless you are really interested, you can stop reading now.<br>
<br>
My dish/radio is on my pumphouse with a clear view to Buck Mtn, 800 feet <br>
from the shop with router in "Internet Central." To get from pumphouse <br>
to shop, I choose to use an old underground telephone line that was <br>
installed 35 years ago, and I installed VDSL on it. It's underground <br>
except for one 20-30 foot segment that crosses a driveway. It runs a <br>
couple of feet away from an old, high pressure, sodium vapor "barn <br>
lamp." The lamp is starting to fail (it's also probably 35 years old). <br>
The lamp goes on automatically during the time period I was having <br>
downs/ups on Buck HamWAN.<br>
<br>
The VDSL line is zippy, running at at least 100Mbps, but is apparently <br>
sensitive to fluctuations in lamp as it flickers. The telephone line is <br>
twisted pair and it's shielded, but apparently not up to the noise <br>
created nearby by the lamp.<br>
<br>
I've been meaning to replace that lamp for some time now, and I need to <br>
bury the last segment of the telephone line.<br>
