I'm done putzing with it. It boots quickly now. I've also added
open-vm-tools so that the shutdowns / reboots are clean, and we can
see all the bound IPs. Also took a couple snapshots in case we need
to restore in future.
OK, looks like I have it working. To fix it, I disabled drbd,
since there is no HA failover peer anymore to share files with.
drbd was blocking boot process. I also disabled pacemaker, which
was preventing asterisk from communicating with the outside
somehow. I migrated the pacemaker anycast IPs directly into
Ubuntu eth0:0 and eth0:1 aliases. Verified my phone registers
now, and can get into the conference call service.

Since I basically ripped out HA to make this work, I'm gonna
disable a few more services to optimize / speed up the boot
process. Corosync and ha_logd and whatever else. Things will be
back for good in a few more reboots.
First it froze, then it was rebooted and the HA software screwed
up somehow, then HA software was bypassed and it ran for a few
days, then it ran out of RAM and deadlocked, then I rebooted it
and gave it more RAM, and then it refused to boot up at all.

It's been an ordeal of Ubuntu 14. It needs to be either rescued
via Live CD or rebuilt from scratch at this point, since it's
not booting. If anyone has an insightful idea for dealing with
this frozen boot screen, it'd be great:
