Aaron, if you want to take a class to get a license see
http://www.arrl.org/find-an-amateur-radio-license-class  for HamWan you
would only need a Technician license and may be able to complete with self
study.  An online resource is https://hamstudy.org/

There are a group of digitally interested hams that have brunch nearly
every Saturday morning in Everett, if you are ever down that way.
